Everybody Loves A Sapphire Ring!

Rings are a very popular and personal category of jewelry. They are more than a fashion choice -- often sentimental or symbolic, sometimes handed down in a family for generations.

Unlike earrings or a pendant, when you wear a ring, you see it on your hand all day. You enjoy your ring in a different way than you enjoy even your most favorite fashion jewelry.

When someone chooses a gemstone ring, sapphire is the one that comes to mind. What is it about this gem that has made it such a favorite?

-- One reason sapphire is a popular choice is that it is very durable. Second only to diamond in hardness, sapphire is suitable also for engagement rings and rings that are intended to be worn every day.

-- Another reason sapphire is popular is because it is BLUE. Across the world, blue is the top choice when people are asked about their favorite color. (As you may know, sapphire does occur in different colors, like pink, yellow, colorless, and others. But the traditional sapphire color is blue.)

-- The gorgeous blue color is equally stunning whether it is set in yellow gold, or in a white metal like platinum or white gold. My personal favorite way to set a blue sapphire is in a two-tone mounting that combines the deep blue with yellow and white metal, like you can see in the ring pictured above. This really enhances the color of the sapphire.
